John Moore was born in England in 1762. His father, Martin, later moved their family to New York. In the fall of 1781, John Moore enlisted in the 1st New York Regiment and was later under the command of the Marquis de Lafayette. He was discharged at the end of the war in 1783. Moore later married Sally Thorn and became a Colonel in the Delaware County militia. He died in Delhi in 1843.
