John Dean Harper

    February 4, 1924 – December 6, 1944

    John Dean Harper was born in Albany, New York, on February 4, 1924, the son of Harold and Margaret (Dean) Harper. He was a graduate of Delaware Academy, where he was valedictorian of the Class of 1942. John was a member of the Honor Society, served as president of the Student Council, was a star athlete, and was the Delaware County recipient of a Cornell University Scholarship.

    After graduation, John studied meteorology at Amherst College before being transferred to the Army Air Corps. He served as a Corporal and as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator with the 415th Bomb Squadron.

    John died of wounds on December 6, 1944, in Italy. He is remembered for his leadership and sacrifice.
