Lynn Elliott Dreyfus
November 21, 1916 – August 12, 1953
Born in Delhi, New York, Lynn Elliott Dreyfus was a 1934 graduate of Delaware Academy, where he served as Vice President of the Junior Class and played first trumpet in the school orchestra. He went on to attend Hamilton College and later graduated from Cornell University in 1940.
In 1942, Lynn entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Aleutian Islands with the 87th Mountain Infantry before being transferred to the Adjutant General’s Office in California.
Following his military service, Lynn returned to Delhi and co-founded the law firm Hewitt & Dreyfus. He became a respected member of the legal community, serving as both the Village Attorney for Delhi and the Delaware County Attorney.
Tragically, Lynn died at the age of 36 from polio. At the time of his death, he was confined to an iron lung. His life, marked by service, leadership, and community dedication, was cut far too short, but he remains remembered and honored in his hometown.
