Howard G. Frisbee
Howard Grant Frisbee
February 12, 1899 – March 17, 1925
Private, Student Army Training Corps
Howard Grant Frisbee was born in Delhi, New York, the son of Luther and Sarah (Grant) Frisbee. He spent most of his life in Delhi, with a brief time living in Meredith. A bright and dedicated student, Howard received the Delaware County Scholarship for soldiers and went on to attend Union College.
During World War I, Howard enlisted in the Student Army Training Corps, a program established to prepare young men for military service while continuing their education. He held the rank of Private and served from October 3 to December 7, 1918.
In 1920, Howard contracted scarlet fever, and not long after, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis—a disease that would impact the rest of his life. He spent two years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in search of relief, and was later transferred to U.S. Veterans Hospital #51 in Tucson, Arizona, where he spent his final three years. Arizona was known at the time for its climate, believed to aid in the treatment of tuberculosis.
Despite his long illness, Howard remained a student at the time of his death. He passed away at just 26 years old, remembered for his perseverance, academic promise, and quiet service to his country.
